As rich in history as it is in flavor, the Hurricane cocktail was created during World War II when whiskey was scarce. To overcome spirits shortages, Pat O'Brien devised a new concoction blending rum and up to three kinds of fruit juices. Topped with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice skewered on a cocktail pick, the vibrant red Hurricane cocktail was served in a curvaceous glass shaped like an old-fashioned hurricane lamp, hence its name.
